Astonishing things Ruckman claims to know that no one else can find in the Bible

Throughout our painful journey reading Ruckman’s writings, we took note of various matters of interest. He is essentially claiming to find what no one else has been able to find in the Scriptures. When he made reference to a certain verse or short passage that was supposed to support his discovery, we reproduce the verse or main passage for the benefit of our readers. In some cases Ruckman’s reasoning is drawn out and is not quoted in its entirety, but we did not find it any more convincing.

What the forbidden fruit was in the Garden of Eden

4. But she takes the forbidden fruit orally (Gen. 3:6).
5. It is a grape with seeds and typifies blood, and becomes blood in her (see Gen. 2:23). (Ruckman, Peter. The Book of Genesis. The Bible Believer’s Commentary Series. Pensacola, FL: Bible Baptist Bookstore, 1969, 1980 reprint, p. 87)

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Gen. 3:6)

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Gen. 2:23)

Exactly where the Garden of Eden was

Genesis 13:10 –The passage with Genesis 2:13-14 and other passages shows you the original “Eden” was a pyramid shaped piece of land with the apex of the pyramid at Mt. Ararat, and the left corner on the Nile, with the right corner on Ur of the Chaldees. (Ruckman’s Bible References: Personal Notes on Salient Verses in the Bible, p. 15)

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar (Gen. 13:10) [Hint: This seems to be a comparison of destruction or judgement, not locations]

And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. (Gen. 2:13-14) [Hint: If you read the context starting in verse 10, it is speaking of “a river went out of Eden…” Sounds like the description of the location of a river that “went out of Eden,” not Eden itself!]

The original language before the tower of Babel

The text [Gen. 2:19] would indicate that the original language is Hebrew… (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 5)

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. (Gen. 2:19)

What the language of heaven will be

The text [Gen. 2:19] would indicate that the original language is Hebrew, and that it is the language of Heaven that God gave to man. When the Lord speaks to Paul from Heaven, He speaks in Hebrew, and not just because Paul is a Hebrew. When you get to the heavenly scene in Revelation, the hosts up there, that include millions of Gentiles, are singing "Alleluia" (Rev. 19:1,3,4,6). That's "praise ye Jehovah." It is a Hebrew word. (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 5)

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. (Gen. 2:19)

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. (Rev. 19:1; 3-4; 6)

The ingredient of Esau's pottage

(25:34) This despised birthright, which Esau traded for a bowl of chili, would have given him a double portion… (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 53)

This may have been an attempt at humor, but Ruckman does not clarify. The Bible actually reveals the main ingredient of the pottage served to Esau.

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. (Gen. 25:34)

The date of Christ's birth

(1:16) The sun shows up on the fourth day, for that's the birthday of Jesus Christ and the time of the Second Advent: September 23rd. (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 2)

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. (Gen. 1:16)

Who the sons of God of Genesis 6 were and their exact purpose

Lucifer, with one crown on his head, saw immediately that the only way to go out into outer space and take the throne (which he first set his heart on), was to produce a race of Super-humans, who would obey him. Gen 6:1-4 is where this operation is conceived and carried out, and it showed every possibility of being a perfect plan of invasion. (Ruckman, Peter. The Sure Word of Prophecy, p. 94)

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (Gen. 6:1-4)

The timing of Christ's second advent, with the caveat "if our calendar is right"

(See our article Peter Ruckman’s failed attempts at publicly guessing the date of the rapture)

The color of Cain's mark

Cain's "mark" is black and indicates uncleanness, Lev. 13:28. (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 11)

And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. (Gen. 4:15)

And if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not in the skin, but it be somewhat dark; it is a rising of the burning, and the priest shall pronounce him clean: for it is an inflammation of the burning. (Lev. 13:28)

The Antichrist's height

The signs of the Antichrist are multiplied and the best way to study this matter is to obtain our book from the Bible Baptist Bookstore called Mark of the Beast in which we give you the Antichrist’s name, his race, his religion, his number, his sign, his mark, his height, his shape, his letter, his favorite color and his favorite ‘bible.” The Antichrist is more clearly marked in the scripture than any other character outside of Jesus Christ. The modern Christian books that you find about the Antichrist do not even really touch the subject. The Antichrist is connected with the letter X. He is connected with the color that you find so prominent in Africa. He is connected with the Vatican manuscript. He has a name, a sign, a number, a mark, a letter, a place, a bible, a church, a race, and a nationality; and the Bible tells you the whole thing without any guess work being involved at all. (Ruckman, Peter. Theological Studies, Vol. 9, p. 23)

Those who dare raise their heads to look at the dreadful apparition are suddenly overcome with awe and reverence as they behold a figure fully ten-feet tall… (Ruckman, Peter. Mark of the Beast. Pensacola, FL: Pensacola Bible Institute, 1977, p. 106)

The name of the Antichrist, among other details

The Son of Perdition has a number (666), a mark (a black spot or cross), a letter (the letter “X”), a color (“black is beautiful”), a religion (Roman Catholicism), a name (Judas Iscariot), a sign (a KISS), and a female consort (Zech. 5:7-11, and Rev. 17:1-3), “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,” etc. (Ruckman’s Bible References, p. 364)

And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.  (Zech. 5:7-11)

And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (Rev. 17:1-3)

The exact route Christ will take on the Kings Highway

(See our article Does Ruckman really know the path of the second advent?)

How many tears have been shed in the last 6,000 years

[Psa. 56:8] With 11,250,000,000,000 tears having been shed since Cain killed Abel (figuring 300 teardrops to an ounce), you get enough tears in 6,000 years to float two Lexington-class aircraft carriers. (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, pp. 807-808)

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psa. 56:8)

The exact diseases Job was afflicted with

[Note for Job 8:6] Job was "pure and upright," and was smitten with a combination of leprosy, elephantitis, and smallpox. (Ruckman Reference Bible, first edition, p. 736)

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. (Job 8:6)

He makes many more claims in his writings, these are only examples. Most of the above was presented as established facts, not guesses (although he did at times admit he was guessing as to his proposed date of the rapture).

Ruckman is well aware of the powerful effect of presenting yourself as finding answers to Bible mysteries that no one else can. It's almost as if he was describing himself when he wrote this:

1. All heretics like to begin with an obscure passage about which there is difficulty…
3. All heretics like to state dogmatically what an obscure thing is (like Matt 16:18 or Acts 2:38 or 1 John 3:9) so people will stand in wide-eyed amazement and say, "My, isn't he brilliant?" (Ruckman, Peter. The Book of Matthew. Pensacola: Pensacola Bible Institute, 1970, 1978 reprint, pp. 542-543)

A writer on an internet forum "hit the nail on the head" when he summed up Ruckman as follows:

The Bible says "knowledge puffeth up" in I Cor. 8:1. The more knowledge one gets that he or she believes no one else has access to, doesn't believe, or is "too lazy or stupid to find," the more the ego is puffed up. That is why both Ruckman, and his followers, have no problem walking around calling people "stupid" or "he couldn't find a bowling ball in a bathtub!" Why use language like that unless your ego is so puffed up by your supposed special revelations and knowledge that only you and your followers can find in the Bible?

And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. (I Corinthians 8:2)

  1. Particular Baptist says:

This insightful article explains much of what I had heard from a devoted Ruckmanite, C Watters, I once knew to the line. Interestingly, Ruckman borrowed from one of the Burned Over District sects again, namely, the Latter Day Saints in teaching the mark placed upon Cain was a black pigmentation taking no heed according to God’s word by augmenting the ethnicity of the papal antichrist. Even if I was yet a dispensationalist, one struggles to find a futuristic colored antichrist by name anywhere in the word of life. Hebrews 13.9. There are disputes in the knife sharpening community aplomb, yet we do not dispute dull is dull while sharp is sharp, verifiable by light reflection, cutting performance or microscopiv evaluation; Ruckman says down is up, up is down, sideways is slant-ways; Saul pens to Timothy —

“Now the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and [of] faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.”

Interestingly, the lexicons such as Thayer’s note the root of “vain jangling” in the above text is “devoid of truth, senseless” denoting idolatry (says the selfsame Ruckman of Christians going into the Godhood) in addition to the term for “to speak.” Consequently, Ruckman’s “vain babbling” portends doctine while presenting sectarian idolatry; his manifold followers are the very evidence! Worse yet, Ruckman was despite his flamboyant, flagrant boasts of academian intellect, never saw his desparate need of wisdom not to speak in things too high for him! What was Job’s malady; smallpox isn’t unreasonable yet his three friends would have been infected by being in such close vicinity for days on end. It’s best to leave that alone since it is unspecified; Ruckman treaded where the Holy Spirit did not tread, nor did his angels!

Very good article exposing Ruckman’s outrageous claims.

I remember a claim that Ruckman made concerning the nation of Israel & how they could obtain forgiveness for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ & “trigger” the rapture and the Tribulation.

Here is a quote from the first edition of the Ruckman Reference Bible – page 315. The note is concerning Deuteronomychapter 21 but the note itself is found in verse one. I’ll give the full quote from Ruckman’s note & then the text of Scripture. The heading of the chapter quotes as follows “The God-ordained way to trigger the Rapture”

Quote: “This chapter reviews how the Jews can get the blood of Jesus Christ off their hands. By doing so, they can trigger the Rapture and start the Tribulation. This has escaped every corrector and revisor pf the King James Version.”

Deuteronomy 21:1 “If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:”

So much for receiving forgiveness through the blood atonement of Jesus Christ. The leaders of the nation of Israel will have to kill a red heifer and receive forgiveness through means of an animal! Then the rapture will occur and then the Great Tribulation will begin and the Jewish nation will be the one to “trigger” it all. So much for the man not knowing the day or the hour of Christ coming, according to Ruckman this is the “God ordained way” to trigger the Rapture. Blasphemy, silliness, & heresy all rolled into one.

No one in Church history could find this truth before Ruckman because they were bible correctors. Sheesh.

  3. Anonymous says:

I don’t believe Peter Ruckman was was at all concerned with consistency in biblical doctrine, but rather, being preoccupied with the sensational and the shocking, which in turn would draw a cult following and an extremely bloated ego for himself and his followers.

Anyone who closely follows Ruckman and allows themselves to be influenced by his material in a significant way will inevitably carry his attitude and succumb to his false teachings as well. Very sad and unfortunate indeed.

  4. Manny says:

He not saying these things are DOCTRINE he’s giving food for thought,I was saved by a Ruckman preacher and the Grace of GOD..Studied under Ruckman and I would never be in a cult..do I believe everything Ruckman preached? No but the man was a Bible genius

    • Anonymous says:

Manny, with all due respect the article gave quotes directly from Ruckman himself and he said nothing about what he taught as “food for thought” but he presented them as established and irrefuteable facts found in the bible.

I own all of his commentaries and much of his classroom material on cd, and he very rarely, if ever, presented his teachings as food for thought. No, about 99% of the time he would belittle and insult anyone who would dare to question what he was teaching. He consistently berates and cuts down anyone who does not believe what he says as a “non bible believer” or an “apostate”. This leads his followers to believe that almost everyone else in church history and in the present are stupid and foolish for not finding what he finds in the bible. He is brainwashing and manipulating people with these tactics, not to mention being extremely untruthful in misrepresenting the people he opposes.

The last sentence you wrote in your comment proves that you have been bewitched by his supposed genius. Much of the attraction for his followers is the fact that he is perceived as so smart, that his iq is incredible, and that he read a book a day, so he must be right.

Ruckmanism is built on Ruckman & his supposed genius. I was deeply influenced and manipulated by his teachings for many years and I thank God I was able to take a step back and see its extremely cultish tendencies. I hope that you will see that as well one day because Ruckman was not an honest man.

      • Patrick Murphy says:

        Webmaster, I respectfully disagree.

It is easy to lift a "quote" out of a teaching session or article or even the Bible itself and make it appear to have a meaning it doesn't have or a air of infallibility that was never intended by the speaker.

I too have studied Dr. Ruckman’s teaching for over 3 decades and could not disagree with you more. Do I beleive EVERYTHING he says, of course not.

The man was instrumental in countless hundreds if not thousands of souls coming being rescued from Hell over a 50+ year ministry, hundreds of men and women dedicating their lives to the Lord, not to mention the faith inspired by his unwavering stand in the inerrancy of the Bible.

And so why do you put so much effort in undermining him? Thats a retorical question……I don’t even know your name.

        • Webmaster says:

Can you back up what you infer by providing actual and specific cases where you believe Ruckman has been taken out of context in quotes on this website?

    • Princess A Dickerson says:

      I agreed with you!

  5. Brent Weathers says:

Dropping ‘False Prophet’ monikers on Christians is below the ‘right’ of a believer to make. We are no longer in the Old Kingdom of theocracy – i.e., Israel/Prophets to Christ. Since Christ we were instructed to ‘search the scriptures’, & people everywhere are then given the right to seek with the means of their own heart/mind to pursue, errors notwithstanding – false hearts will come to their own means(Mt.13:3-9). We hear men like Augustine,Spurgeon,Wesley(who quoted, by the way, “Never dream of forcing men into the ways of God. Think yourself, & let think. Use no constraint in matters of religion. Even those who are farthest out of the way never compel to come in by any other means than reason, truth, & love.”-Sermon 37, The nature of enthusiasm) &, many have, in error, viewed these mens’ words as some ‘Fulfillment’ to the scriptures/church kingdom, not just an addendum of thoughts from mere servants(Luke 17:7-10), which compels us to defend ‘doctrine/man’s institution’, which Jesus didn’t even do, but rather set forth a manner of thinking that we’re to pursue for the hope that is set before us. Christ’s purpose was not to fully ‘Enlighten’ us here and now lest we become dictators, the nature of our being. Yet we praise the familiarity we were raised up under. Sinful man is really at his worst when trying to ‘Establish’ God within man’s kingdom.
Israel reflected the best for men as God vied for them, blessed them, & punished them, but it proved an absolute debauchery because men were still involved. God new this in advance and never intended to place His purpose for us in this kingdom. Man’s ego is tainted & organized man will always subvert & dominate, not serve. There is no organization, sect, or theologian ‘Ordained ‘ by God. God seen theocracy as Imperfect, just as being in Union with fallen man is imperfect, being removed from the perfect fellowship with God that Man, Adam, once new. That’s why the old ended with Christ, but began with Him anew & yet we’re no longer dealing with strict matters of edict which can be readily understood, tit-for-tat, like the men of the Old Testament dealt with to comply with rules to govern mere laws of Old Earth. We’re left, rather, with a tiny morsel of faith given to us by the wisest in the flesh who didn’t strive in His mystique-ness to make sure we understood everything, because we cannot – in this flesh, on this earth. Our destiny is in the New Heavens & Earth, & we’re not given permission to start reaping from that place, we’re not there yet. He said, ‘This is My beloved Son, hear ye Him.’, & when Jesus said, ‘It is finished’, He completed All doctrine, sans prophets – He was the last ‘Complete’ Prophet.
In the end, ‘thoughts’ with some will have merit & therefore be blessed of God, others will be just so much flotsam & jetsam is all, but no threat. As long as there is no heresy involving Christ & the Hope given to men by being brought down to man’s ideals & control, we may critique in the honesty of our hearts.

    • Thomas McElhenie says:

What? I had a difficult time following your comments. It would seem you are saying anything anyone believes is their problem to deal with in the end. But if they happen to choose salvation through Jesus Christ they were very fortunate to have done so and they are going to be ok in the end, as if it were by mere happenstance. Christ’s kingdom here on earth will be established as His millennial kingdom and not until after the tribulation period. Revelation is very clear on that. We as believers are admonished to try those who say they are apostles, be as the Bereans and search the scriptures daily to see if what they were taught was so. It’s ok to point out error being taught as truth and those who do so. This age is full of wolves in sheep’s clothing and we who have the truth (Jesus Christ) must not be lax in doing so. The eternal soul of every human being is at stake. John 3:16 and the verses that follow outline the Love God has for you and me. Let us hate the sin and love the sinner and pray for them to hear the truth and that the Holy Spirit being them into salvation through Jesus Christ.

  6. Dr. Arnold Shrewsbury says:

When I lived in Canton, Ohio I used to go to the Massillon Baptist Temple to hear Ruckman. He was an excellent artist and would draw a picture on a huge easel while preaching, however, he was so outlandish, critical and rude that my interest quickly waned. A guy from my church who had invited me became a Ruckmanite. He left our church and joined a Bible Baptist Church. Next thing I know, he and people from his church were riding in the bed of a pickup truck, yelling through loudspeakers to the crowd attending the Football Hall of Fame yearly game,"YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HELL." This was their method of evangelizing. My friend and his wife became critical and total jerks. So much for Ruckman's teaching.

    • Baptist says:

If they aren't saved then they are going to hell. Nothing wrong with spreading the warning. Sensitivity doesn't work on everyone.

  7. Not for the reason you intended, but I appreciate your website. I am sorry for the way you scoff at what Peter Ruckman has written. It reminds me of atheists who scoff at what Christians believe because they think no one else can no more about God than what they and their friends know.

I have greatly appreciated Peter Ruckman’s writings. He has done more to get me to believe the Bible than any other Bible teacher. Even in those things he has said that seem most outrageous, it is apparent he has arrived at them by taking some verses very literally. I have come to understand that so much of my theological education has been learning to explain away verses that do not quite agree with what I have been taught. I have learned that, just as He has promised, God does open up truth to those who believe His words (literally) above all others. God said what He means, and means what He said.

That appears to be the emphasis of Ruckman’s teaching—believe the KJV. Romans 3:4 appears to say that no Bible teacher is 100% correct.  God will not let you believe truth by just believing what a man or men believe. Each person needs to put their belief in God’s word. Thus, one can look at what Ruckman says and decide from Scripture, not public opinion, what is correct and what is not. When I first looked at this website and saw that you counted a Ruckman claim (that the fruit forbidden to Adam was grapes) as too wild to believe, I was encouraged to rework my slides about that topic and post them on my website: TheologyPoints.org.  In doing so I learned some more about the subject and became even more secure in my arguments. See the slides :The Blood of the Grape. So, thank you for that encouragement.

Surely you can see the fallacy of your example when comparing a website which calls out incorrect doctrine and behaviour which does not meet Christian standards.

As for Peter Ruckman being a great teacher, I will say that it sounds to me you may be surprised at the types of insights and teaching that the Holy Spirit shows regular everyday believers whom you never see on the internet, and who may share these insights at their local churches Bible study for instance.

I wonder if you can see how you elevate this man to a position of being faultless (You may say he has faults but how you speak of them belies this in impression) and indeed to a position of just simpy being better.

      Have a good day Sir.

  8. Linda says:

You know, I have posted on another segment for this cause.  And thank you for your hard work to expose the phony that Ruckman was.  Two things from the KJV Bible ring in my head when reading about Ruckman, or watching some of his retro "sermons" on youtube, and even listening to Donovan's assumption of the brainwashing "sector."  1) Idolatry is a sin (many referrences to idolatry in the Bible and we are told to flee from it).  2) Pride is of the evil one.  The whole Bible consists of God's message to be humble and the negative outcome of pride.  Who would even believe someone who teaches with arrogance in his voice?  Or, who would throw the Holy Bible to the floor, twice in one sermon?  The floor is beneath man's feet.  Who would have that much pride and claim to be a servant of the Lord?   Just Awful!

  9. Ruckman ignored Galatians 1:9 says:

This is my favorite blog, now.

A lot of Ruckman guys are creeps with an odd spirit.  I knew two particular Ruckman guys who would glory in their sinful past. (If it's still their past, because I doubt their salvation.)

Mark my words: A born-again believer WILL GET CHASTISED. Anyone who thinks it's "fun" to recall sinful memories better check their salvation.

I don't need detailed reminders of your sinful past when I'm TRYING TO WORSHIP the Lord Jesus Christ.
